Astor Piazzolla

The theater

The dancers

Piazzolla's bandoneon

A Delightful Tango Night at the Astor Piazzolla Theater

We invite you to experience an evening of passion, charm, beauty and sensuality; a night of Tango at the new Art and Theater Center dedicated to Astor Piazzolla, the most inspiring and gifted tango composer of the twentieth century.

Astor Piazzolla was recognized for his music and was acclaimed in Europe, South America, Japan and the United States as a superlative musician and composer. He definitely brought the Tango a long way from when it was first danced in Buenos Aires a century ago by two pimps on a street corner. Piazzolla’s compositions gave Tango a new face, a new look. His works and his compositions influenced the best musicians and composers of that period and made Tango the music we now love and appreciate, the music that has also seduced millions of new tango fans around the world, who after their first dance have decided to tango on for ever.

As Carlos Gardel is the key figure of Tango’s classic era, Piazzolla is the key figure, developer and inspiration of the New Tango era. On July 4, 1992 the Tango world cried over Piazzolla’s death. For decades Piazzolla had been the Tango ambassador to the World, like he once said “I was born in Argentina, raised in New York, found my way while in Paris, but every time I go on stage, people know I’m going to play the music of Buenos Aires.” This top-notch show of classic and new tango that you will enjoy is our tribute to Piazzolla and his fascinating music.

Click here to listen to a wonderful interpretation of "Verano Porteño" by Astor Piazzolla at the Central Park concert in New York. You will need Real Audio 3.0 or newer to listen to these files. You can also enjoy a complete free library of Piazzolla's music that you can listen at http://www.piazzolla.org/sounds.

The place where you will enjoy this show of classic and new Tango is as  fascinating as the show itself: the palace in Galeria Güemes, first opened in 1915 and closed for the last 30 years. More than a million dollars where invested to renovate this space which in 1915 was the tallest building in Buenos Aires.

The dinner menu includes many options, such as:

Appetizers: combination of tiny home-made “empanadas” (oven-baked turnovers stuffed with chopped beef or tomato, cheese & basil) or beef slices in vitel sauce or mini argentine cheese croquants served with fresh salad & red grapes.

Main Course:home-made pasta or beefsteak in its sauce served with saffron potatoes & vegetables or basil-spinach stuffed chicken rolls on bed of risotto & toasted almonds.

Desserts: burgundy pears (sliced pears with zabaglione ice cream & candied figs) or home-made custard with “dulce de leche” & caramel sauce or  chocolate mousse with walnut crust.

Beverages: soft drinks, mineral water, red wine (Malbec Cabernet and Malbec Syrah) , white wine (viognier chardonnay) and sparkling wine (Argentine champagne).

Duration: 3 hours - show duration: 1 hour and a half

Transfer: private vehicle

Includes: private transfers + dinner with beverages and wine
